After promoting Bobby Babich to defensive coordinator and losing Eric Washington to the Chicago Bears, the Buffalo Bills had vacancies at linebackers coach and defensive line coach. On Friday, the team announced that those vacancies had been filled internally.
Buffalo announced that Al Holcomb would take over as the team’s linebackers coach and Marcus West would be the team’s defensive line coach in 2024.
Holcomb, 53, joined the Bills in 2023 as a senior defensive assistant. He had previously worked for Sean McDermott on the Carolina Panthers from 2013-2016. During that time, Holcomb was Carolina’s linebackers coach. In addition to working with linebackers in Carolina, Holcomb was the Cleveland Browns’ linebackers coach in 2019. Holcomb has also served as a defensive coordinator in his career with the Panthers (interim) and Arizona Cardinals.
West, 40, served as the Bills’ assistant defensive line coach since 2022. He joined the Bills after serving as Charlotte’s assistant head coach and co-defensive coordinator. West had a short professional football career before turning to coaching. He was on the Indianapolis Colts’ offseason roster in 2006 and played in NFL Europe for the Amsterdam Admirals (2007) and the CFL for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2007).
