How much does a Super Bowl commercial cost in 2024?

A 30-second spot during Super Bowl LVIII will cost about $7 million, according to AdAge and CBS News. That’s comparable to 2023 ad prices, but it’s up 75% from a decade ago and an increase of more than 200% from 20 years ago.

CBS has reportedly sold out its airtime for the NFL championship, expected to be viewed by more than 110 million people. Paramount Global will also simulcast the football game on Nickelodeon (with commentary by Syracuse native Tom Kenny as “SpongeBob SquarePants”) and Paramount+, maximizing the audience.

That’s a lot of potential eyeballs for brands, as the Super Bowl remains the biggest television event in America. That’s especially valuable in the fractured media landscape as cord cutters have turned to streaming services or social media for entertainment.

Costs vary from placement time during the game or for airtime, as some companies spend more for a 60-second spot or less for 15 seconds. And then they have to actually produce the ads, shelling out more money for production and celebrity spokespeople.

As a result, companies release big game commercials early on YouTube to build buzz in hopes of becoming the most talked about product. Teaser trailers, extended versions or online contests can also stretch the value of those ad dollars.

2024′s buzziest ads so far include appearances by Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer (Uber Eats), Kate McKinnon (Hellmann’s), Arnold Schwarzenegger (State Farm), Kris Jenner (Oreos), Chris Pratt (Pringles), Tina Fey (Booking.com), Meghan Trainor (e.l.f. Cosmetics), Dan Marino (M&M’s), Ice Spice (Starry), Syracuse native Post Malone (Bud Light) and the return of the Budweiser Clydesdales.

Commercials for the first Super Bowl in 1967 cost just $42,000 and big game spots didn’t surpass $1 million until the mid ‘90s. Prices have gone up nearly every year since then, jumping from $5.6 million in 2021 to $7 million in 2023.

Super Bowl LVIII is scheduled to kick off between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Feb. 11, at 6:30 p.m. ET on CBS. The game can be streamed live on fuboTV (free trial).
