American Yared Nuguse currently holds the second fastest indoor mile time in history at 3:47.38, less than a second behind Ethiopian Yomif Kejelcha’s 3:47.01 world record, set in 2019. This year’s Wanamaker Mile could be the place a new world record is set.
Other high profile competitors include Olympians Elle St. Pierre (USA) and silver medalist Laura Muir (Great Britain) in the women’s field, and Hobbs Kessler in the men’s field, who is the third-fastest American in history behind Nuguse and Bernard Lagat.
The Millrose Games have seen multiple world records set over the years, including most recently in 2018, when the American team of Chrishuna Williams, Raevyn Rogers, Charlene Lipsey and Ajeé Wilson set the women’s 4 × 800 m relay record at 8:05.89.
