Syracuse, N.Y. — The mother of a teenager fatally shot by an Onondaga County sheriff’s deputy sued the county, the sheriff’s office and the deputy Thursday for alleged violations of federal civil rights and state laws.

In the federal lawsuit, Hawa Ayek accused sheriff’s Deputy John Rosello of excessive force, assault and battery that resulted in the wrongful death on Sept. 6 of her 17-year-old son, Dhal Apet.
