Do you need a date for Valentine’s Day? A Central New York police department has a criminally funny offer for (some) people who don’t want the spend the holiday alone.
The Town of Manlius Police are inviting anyone with an active warrant for their arrest to contact them. In exchange, police officers will provide a free and safe ride (ahem, in a squad car) and arrange for a (court) date.
“Need plans for Valentine’s Day? Have an active warrant? Give us a call!” Manlius Police wrote in a Facebook post that started going viral Friday. “We will come pick you up, let you borrow a pair of our bracelets, and spend time talking with you.”
“We promise not to ghost you (even though you obviously have ghosted us),” the post continued. “We always answer (911) and we’ll make sure to set up a second (court) date!”
The online gag also included heart-shaped handcuffs and images of candy conversation hearts with the words “Let’s talk,” “Court date,” and “arrest me.” No chocolates and flowers appear to be part of the deal.
If you want to see if there’s an active arrest warrant for you or someone you know, you can search names in Onondaga County at psi2.ongov.net/AWarrants. More than 10,000 active warrants are currently listed in the database, including felonies and misdemeanors.
“Give us a call & let us help you make plans!” Manlius Police wrote, along with their direct phone number: 315-682-2212.
Valentine’s Day 2024 is Wednesday, Feb. 14.
