Representative is out of step with this swing district

To the Editor:

In just the last week, Congressman Williams has demonstrated that he is too MAGA for the swing district he represents in the House of Representatives.

Tuesday, Williams joined nearly all of his caucus in voting to impeach Alejandro Mayorkas, secretary of Homeland Security. Apparently the congressman does not understand that policy differences do not constitute high crimes and misdemeanors.

Williams has joined the MAGA mob in the House that had called for border security measures before considering aid to Ukraine. At the time, the Republicans were withholding support for an outcome they said they wanted (aid for Ukraine) unless they got something else that they wanted (border security). Now after lengthy negotiations in the Senate, agreed to by the Republican negotiator James Lankford and once supported by Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, the GOP is refusing to take yes for an answer. The bill is apparently headed to defeat in the Senate, and the Speaker of the House declared it “dead on arrival” if it does reach the House. Williams earlier in the week declared his opposition to the measure.

And last week, Williams endorsed former President Donald Trump for president.

I had my policy differences with our last Congressman, but at least he was willing to buck the MAGA wing of his party on occasion. Williams is apparently unwilling or unable to do so. He is out of step with his constituents on that score and he does not deserve to be returned as our representative.

Williams’ allegiance isn’t to his constituents

To the Editor:

Congressman Brandon Williams has taken stands that show his allegiance is to one man alone and not to his constituents in Central New York. He voted to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas in a far right show trial. Where are the the high crimes and misdemeanors? He has come out against the bipartisan border bill. This bill is widely considered the best presented in decades, co-authored by the very conservative Republican Sen. James Lankford of Oklahoma. It is endorsed by the 18,000 member Border Patrol Union, whose members have a up close and personal view of the crisis.

For a little frosting on the cake, Wiliams has come out and endorsed an insurrectionist and convicted sexual abuser in this year’s presidential election.

Come November let’s elect someone who will serve their constituents and send Williams back to Texas as a one and done office holder.

Williams, GOP are exploiting grievances

To the Editor:

Do you ever wonder who are we and have become? I do. Growing up, the Golden Rule was the standard we lived by and we taught our children to do likewise. Today it seems that the nastier and more demeaning you can be is acceptable.

Those running to be leaders in the GOP exploit demeaning and hateful speech. They call themselves the family values and pro-life party, but their actions are anything but consistent with that label. How can anyone be pro-life and continue to allow students and young adults be killed in their classrooms, churches, grocery stores and concerts venues? They refuse to expand background checks for gun purchases. How can they support family values and refuse to fund programs that provide food and shelter for those in need?

They scream from the halls of Congress that immigrants are overrunning our border, and in the next breath they loudly proclaim they will not pass a bipartisan bill they haven’t even read. But fixing problems is not in their wheelhouse. Instead, they follow the ex-president’s directive to perpetuate the problem to help his re-election – which Rep. Brandon Williams supports. No surprise, he votes over 90% of the time with Reps. Elise Stefanik and Margorie Taylor Green .

Who do you see when you look in the mirror? Someone filled with hate and grievances who works to divide us? Or one who follows the Golden Rule to help unite us? Your November vote will give the answer.
