Syracuse, N.Y. – The Onondaga County Democratic Committee met Thursday night to select the party’s slate of local, state and federal candidates for the 2024 elections.
The party leaders designated nine candidates to run on the Democratic ballot line in November.
Only three of those seats faced contested elections – Congress, the 50th Senate District and a judge’s position for Onondaga County Family Court.
None of the candidates for Family Court – Christina Cagnina, Laurin Haddad and Christina El Bayadi – received at least 50% of the weighted vote, as required by party rules.
As a result, the Family Court designation will go to a second ballot later this month, said Max Ruckdeschel, the party chair.
The candidates for the 22nd Congressional District and 50th Senate District who did not receive the party’s designation said they would try to force a primary election in June.
