Mariano Rivera, a Hall of Fame closer who pitched for the New York Yankees, is in attendance for a Syracuse lacrosse game against Manhattan on Friday afternoon in the JMA Wireless Dome.

Rivera’s son, Jaziel, is a junior faceoff specialist for the Jaspers.

Rivera, baseball’s career saves leader, was the first unanimous Hall of Fame pick by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. He was enshrined in Cooperstown in 2019.

He amassed 652 saves pitching 19 seasons in the major leagues, all with the Yankees, and retired with 952 games finished — also a record.

A 13-time All-Star, Rivera helped the Yankees win five World Series titles and seven American League pennants.
