How much do players get paid for winning the Super Bowl?
The Kansas City Chiefs will face the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday, Feb. 11, at 6:30 p.m. at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. The game will air on CBS and can be streamed live on fuboTV (free trial).
At the end of the night, only one team will hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy, but players on both teams will score some extra cash just for playing. Teams in conference championships, divisional round games and even wild-cards also get some prize money, win or lose.
However, there is a financial incentive behind gridiron glory for winning: The winning team in the 2024 Super Bowl will make nearly twice as much money as the losing team: The champions will get $164,000 each in prize money, while all players on the other squad will collect $89,000. (Both are an increase of $7,000 from the per-player payouts for Super Bowl 57, which the Chiefs won in 2023.)
Here are the payouts for each NFL postseason game this year:
- Wild-card winner (division winner): $50,500
- Wild-card winner (non-division winner) and teams on first-round bye: $45,500
- Divisional playoff winner: $50,500
- Conference championship winner: $73,000
- Super Bowl winner: $164,000
- Super Bowl loser: $89,000
USA Today points out that, including the playoffs, the Chiefs can earn up to $338,000 total for winning the big game. The 49ers, meanwhile, could only earn a maximum of $333,000 because they didn’t play in the wild-card round due to earning the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
The Chiefs and 49ers last met in the Super Bowl in 2020. Kansas City players took home a $124,000 bonus for winning that year, while San Francisco players got $62,000.
