UPDATE: Tiesto said he will no longer perform at the Super Bowl due to a “personal family emergency.” He will be replaced by Kaskade, another superstar DJ, known for songs like “Escape” and work with Deadmau5, John Summit, Imagine Dragons, Sofi Tukker and Skrillex.

From earlier:

For the first time, the Super Bowl will have an in-game DJ.

Tiësto, a 55-year-old Dutch DJ and record producer, will be playing music before and after the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.

Tiësto, whose full name is Tijs Michiel Verwest, specializes in electronic dance music (EDM). He started DJing in 1985 and first gained popularity in the ‘90s. His popularity has skyrocketed ever since.

With the Super Bowl being held in Las Vegas, a place known for its party culture, the NFL felt this year was the perfect year to fully embrace DJ culture and dance music during the big game.

Tiësto won a Grammy Award in 2015, has more than 12 billion streams worldwide on Spotify and has released six Billboard “Hot 100″ songs. His most recent album, “Drive,” released in April 2023, is currently gold status and approaching platinum. In 2010, Tiësto was voted “The Greatest DJ of All-Time” by fans of Mix Magazine and is often dubbed “The Godfather of EDM.”

For those looking to get a feel for Tiësto’s music before the big game, his top-streamed songs on Spotify are “The Business,” “Jackie Chan” (a collab with multiple artists, including Post Malone, a Syracuse native who is performing pre-game) and “The Motto.” His current top-daily-streamed songs are “Thank You (Not so Bad),” “10:35″ and “Lay Low.”

Many of Tiësto’s songs are remixes and collaborations with other famous artists, so chances are, football fans heard some of his songs without realizing it.

Super Bowl 2024 will air on CBS at 6:30 p.m. ET, and can be streamed live on fuboTV (free trial). Fans can buy Super Bowl LVIII gear, including jerseys and hats, from Fanatics. Find the cheapest Super Bowl 2024 tickets on StubHub.
